"Energy Medicine" may be the buzz word of the year...but what does it mean?

"Chances are you have come across the term "Energy Medicine" sometime in the last year or so but many of you may not know what it means. It is quite a broad term and so the best place to start is a basic definition and description. "Energy Medicine, at its foundation, focuses on the energy fields of the body that organize and control the growth and repair of cells, tissue, and organs. Changing impaired energy patterns may be the most efficient, least invasive way to improve the vitality of organs, cells, and psyche." ~ David Feinstein, Ph.D. And so, we see at its root, energy medicine or energy healing is a form of holistic healthcare that primarily focuses on patterns of energy in the body rather than treating the physical body. This is a very different view to the traditional approach to health care that we are used to. In this view, the body is seen as a composite of separate parts that form the whole. In medicine this translates to the belief that if a part of the body isn't working well or is diseased, you can replace it by surgery or treat it with a drug. The viewpoint held by practitioners of Energy Medicine is quite different to that of the traditional approach. Energy healing practitioners adhere to a Dynamic Systems model, which emphasizes that all parts contribute in dynamic relationship to the whole. In this way the body is viewed not as independent working parts, but as systems that interact and work together with each other for optimal health. In a Dynamic Systems viewpoint of health, questions like how a person developed their symptoms, or how diseases of the body could be connected to a person's emotions, beliefs, environment, or life approach are given attention because everything is dynamically connected. In Energy Medicine, importance is placed on optimal communication between systems within the body for health. Every atom, cell, organ and system require communication with every other atom, cell, organ and system to maintain optimal health. For example, your pancreas and stomach could be in perfect health when viewed diagnostically but there could be a breakdown in communication between them energetically. If your pancreas is having problems producing the right form of enzyme for specific types of foods then this would affect your body's digestive ability. Identifying and then encouraging the body to repair these breakdowns is the key component of energy medicine and why gentle treatments such as BodyTalk and Reiki are effective in achieving this. The body knows how to heal when all parts are synchronized and harmoniously working together. Energy Medicine utilizes gentle techniques and simple applications. It is safe, natural, non-invasive and has no side effects. It can be incorporated with other practices and used to help accelerate the healing process of any other type of health or wellness treatments you may be receiving. To quote biophysicist Dr. James Oschman: "Energy is the currency of all interactions in nature. To leave energetic considerations out of the equations of life and medicine is to ignore 99 percent of what is happening. Energetic approaches work quickly and with few side effects. This is the medicine of the future." If you are interested in experiencing the benefits that energy healing therapies can offer, consider booking in a BodyTalk or Reiki session with Danica.
